In which we start being festive

It’s the shortest day. From now on, things start to get warmer and lighter again.

I wish we could celebrate in the traditional way, by burning a Yule log to bring us health and happiness. Unfortunately, we don’t have a hearth, so that’s out of the window.* We’ll have to make do with holly, mistletoe, friendship and over-eating. For me, the solstice is when the festive season properly starts.

* You also might not want to do it if you believe it might associate you with the satanic New World Order, of course.

What I find hilarious about the web page purporting to reveal the satanic roots of the yule log is that whole thing sounds completely innocent.

Well. If you decide to join the satanic new world order, or even just enjoy some fire, you could always light up little sticks on top of the stove….

    (Merry Yule!)

Here’s a virtual crackling hearth for you: http://members.aol.com/benedit1/boston2.html

My mood has been as dark, and my temper as short, as the days lately.

About friggin’ time. All this darkness is killing me. I never feel like I’m properly “awake” this time of year. I think an ancient unevolved part of me demands hibernation through the winter months.
